ELLENBROOK, AUSTRALIA – POLICE have blamed a legislation loophole for the light sentence of a Midvale man who filmed more than 20 naked women in their Ellenbrook homes.
Joseph Peter Newman, 42, received a two-year suspended jail sentence for 135 charges of unlawfully using a surveillance device and two counts of stalking.
Police said they were disappointed the legislation for these kinds of offences did not reflect the seriousness of the actions.
Despite facing 135 charges of unlawfully using an optical surveillance device, police said the maximum penalty Newman could have received in this case was one year’s imprisonment. Read the rest of this entry »
