UNITED KINGDOM – Scientists found that good-looking men want to maximise their chances of producing offspring with a range of women — so they hold some back for future partners.

This means women trying to get pregnant are better off choosing UGLY men to mate with.

The study was carried out by researchers at the University of Oxford and University College London and is due to be published in the journal American Naturalist in September.

Sam Tazzyman, from UCL, said: “The more attractive a male is, the more females will be willing to mate with him, reducing the value of each mating to him. Read the rest of this entry »

ScienceBlogs.com explores sex toy accidents and injuries

Behold the rabbit. In the immortal words of Charlotte from Sex and the City: Look! Oh, it's so cute! Oh I thought it would be all scary and weird, but it isn't! It's pink, for girls! I love the little bunny, it has a little face! Like Peter Rabbit.

UNITED STATES – I think we can all agree that the American population has become a little more open with regard to sexual practices than it was in, say, the 1950′s. The existence of premarital sex is discussed in multiple media outlets, and there are homosexual relationships discussed with candor. However, there are still several sexual practices which are still considered relatively taboo with regards to public discussion. While male masturbation, for example is discussed (often as comedic relief) pretty openly, female masturbation remains an extremely taboo topic in popular discussion. However, another topic also remains un-discussed (well, except for on Sex and the City, and they’ve discussed EVERYTHING).

It's all part of my evil plan....

It's all part of my evil plan....

UNITED STATES – Some of the first eerie signs of a potential health catastrophe came as bizarre deformities in water animals, often in their sexual organs.

Frogs, salamanders and other amphibians began to sprout extra legs. In heavily polluted Lake Apopka, one of the largest lakes in Florida, male alligators developed stunted genitals. Read the rest of this entry »

Dawud Yadualla: Suit blames jail nurse's Rx for erection

NEW YORK, NEW YORK – Now this is hard time.

An ex-con is suing an upstate prison nurse who allegedly sent him back to his cell after medication side effects gave him a painful erection that wouldn’t go away.

Dawud Yaduallah says he suffered for 55 hours before finally getting hospital treatment to relieve the problem in his pants.

Yaduallah, 43, claims nurse Judith Lovelace’s diagnostic foul-up left him “irreparably injured” with “severe damage to his penis, including erectile dysfunction, inability to ejaculate and pain during sexual intercourse.” Read the rest of this entry »

A lot of people use them…

rabbit_habitMy usual response to people who ask me “who uses sex toys” is to say that over 20 years of selling sex toys there isn’t a kind of person I haven’t sold a toy to. While sex toys aren’t for everyone, they are something anyone might be interested in, and their popularity extends far beyond the lonely and sexually frustrated.

That was the answer I give because, until now, most of the “data” we have on who uses sex toys comes from marketing surveys conducted by manufacturers, sex toy retailers, or women’s magazines looking to boost their circulation. In other words it’s data I trust about as far as I can throw a marketing executive across a room (which, if you’ve seen me in person you know, isn’t very far. even if the marketing executive is small). To borrow from the great comedic folk duo, Flight of the Chonchords “Yeah, you sexy hermaphrodite lady-man-lady, with your sexy lady bits, and your sexy man bits too, even you must be into you-oo-oo.” Hermaphroditism is common in marine invertebrates and the, flatworms are no exception. Certain species of flatworm engage in a behavior called penis fencing.

She must be really horny. Or maybe she's just faking it.

She must be really horny. Or maybe she's just faking it.

SLOVENIA – A MIRACLE new smart-bra that BOOSTS a woman’s cleavage when she feels sexy is being tested by lingerie designers.

The magic bra detects changes in body temperature brought on by sexual arousement and squeezes boobs together to create a bigger cleavage.

Then when things cool off again the bra’s built-in memory relaxes the fabric and the wearer’s bust returns to normal, say its Slovenian inventors.

090513-figurine-02GERMANY – If human culture seems obsessed with sex lately, it’s nothing new. Archaeologists have discovered the oldest known artistic representation of a woman — a carved ivory statue of a naked female, dating from 35,000 years ago.

The figurine, unearthed in September 2008 in Hohle Fels Cave in southwestern Germany, may be the oldest known example of figurative art, meaning art that is supposed to represent and resemble a real person, animal or object. The discovery could help scientists understand the origins of art and the advent of symbolic thinking, including complicated language. Read the rest of this entry »
