WASHINGTON, D.C. – Dave Weigel, the intrepid Washington Independent reporter, was at the Omni Shoreham last week for the Value Voters conference, when Tom Coburn’s chief of staff, Michael Schwartz embarked on a rambling explanation of the perils of homosexuality.

Schwartz, a longtime conservative activist who has been with Oklahoma Republican for 15 years, first claimed that homosexuality is wrong because most 10-year-old boys have an innate hatred for it.

Then he began discoursing on the evils of pornography, echoing a friend who once told him that all porn was gay porn because it turned men “inwards.” Read the rest of this entry »

NEW YORK, NEW YORK – It seems William G. Halby of Brooklyn New York has lost his battle in the US Tax Court over about $47,000 which he spent on prostitutes and porn and then deducted as a medical expense on his 2005 federal tax return. They also denied his deduction of $76,000 for the same “medical services” from 2004. It should be noted that Mr. Halby also lost a case with the New York State Division of Tax over deductions totaling $322,000 that he claimed for similar deductions on New York tax returns from 2001 to 2005. WASHINGTON D.C. – On Friday afternoon, the Web site of Washington City Paper offered the spurious news that American Solutions, former U.S. House speaker Newt Gingrich’s organization for tackling the nation’s maze of problems, had named a “porn purveyor” as its “Entrepreneur of the Year” for 2009.

Dinner, apparently, was included in the invitation.

Allison Vivas runs the DVD production/distribution company Pink Visual of Van Nuys, Calif., which specializes in adult films.

MONTGOMERY, ALABAMA – The Alabama Supreme Court ruled against Love Stuff, a Hoover business that sells vibrators and other sexual devices, and upheld Alabama’s anti-obscenity law.

The court ruled that the business failed to show that the state law banning the sale of sexual aides was unconstitutional.

“Public morality can still serve as a legitimate rational basis for regulating commercial activity, which is not a private activity,” Supreme Court justices wrote in the opinion issued Friday. Read the rest of this entry »
