The influence of France’s first lady has halted the sacking of a minister – but for how long

Nicolas Sarkozy, right, appears eager not to take actions that offend his wife, Carla Bruni-Sarkozy

PARIS, FRANCE – The reluctance of Nicolas Sarkozy, the French president, to sack a gay minister with a past as a “sex tourist” in Thailand will certainly please Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, his wife.

She had suggested appointing Frédéric Mitterrand, a friend, as culture minister and the government’s support for him, despite his confession to having paid boys for sex, is partly a sign of Sarkozy’s eagerness not to offend his first lady.

“She has great power and influence,” said Joëlle Garriaud-Maylam, a senator in Sarkozy’s centre-right party, referring to the Italian-born singer and former model. “It’s obvious she is defending Mitterrand. But it puts the president in a difficult situation. He is offending many of his supporters.”

L’affaire Mitterrand began when the nephew of the last Socialist president flew to the defence of Roman Polanski, the Polish film director, over child sex charges, only to face such accusations himself in connection with a memoir published in 2005. Read the rest of this entry »

The chicks just couldn't resist...

In a chapter of his autobiography, the late Senator Ted Kennedy confessed to having slept with over 1,000 women and spending more than $10 million in hush money to keep his womanizing ways a secret. If you crack open the book, however, you won’t find a mention of this in there anywhere. That is because horrified family members and advisers cut it out before the book was published.

A close source also revealed to the National Enquirer that before he died of brain cancer at age 77 on August 25, Kennedy also revealed that he had planned to seduce Mary Jo Kopechne on the night she drowned. The source said: Read the rest of this entry »

Rather, a quintet of former workers at San Francisco’s Vixen Creations on Monday filed suit in the city’s Superior Court claiming they were stiffed … on overtime pay. Read the rest of this entry »

ALABAMA, UNITED STATES – A former judge is to stand trial in a court in Alabama tomorrow charged with having sex with male prisoners in exchange for lenient sentences.

Coburn

Coburn

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Dave Weigel, the intrepid Washington Independent reporter, was at the Omni Shoreham last week for the Value Voters conference, when Tom Coburn’s chief of staff, Michael Schwartz embarked on a rambling explanation of the perils of homosexuality.

Schwartz, a longtime conservative activist who has been with Oklahoma Republican for 15 years, first claimed that homosexuality is wrong because most 10-year-old boys have an innate hatred for it.

Then he began discoursing on the evils of pornography, echoing a friend who once told him that all porn was gay porn because it turned men “inwards.” Read the rest of this entry »
