Isn’t this, after all, the logical extension of our popular culture? Reality TV has brought strippers into our living rooms so we can root for them to find true love, win lots of money or effectively punch out the stripper doing tequila shots next to them.

Miley Cyrus twirled around a stripper pole at the Teen Choice Awards, health clubs have declared pole dancing is the new fitness craze and at least one of Bravo’s Real Housewives claims to have one in her bedroom. Apparently, a girl who doesn’t know her way around a pole is at an extreme disadvantage in today’s society. A doll to give them a leg up could only help them in life.

Men who think strippers are fun can now buy their little girl the doll of their dreams. We no longer have to distinguish between whose dream is being fulfilled.

“He was in his underwear,” says one of the officers, describing Toru Kizaki, a 54-year-old TV script writer. Kizaki was arrested on charges of public indecency along with Yoshiko Yamazaki (37), who is currently unemployed.

According to Naigai Times (July 10), the chartered bus, whose destination was a hot springs resort in Gunma Prefecture, was being used to host orgies.

The 12 passengers on board were apparently patrons of a happening bar in Shinjuku named “Mask.” Its proprietor, Yasushi Takeda, age 47, and Takeda’s wife were also arrested on charges of complicity.

The cost to participate in this daylong swinging bus tour was reported to be 15,000 yen for males and 3,000 yen for females.

Over the past two years the orgy express reportedly made a total of seven runs, with the onboard activities described as similar to those occurring at Takeda’s happening bar.

Only in Japan would a pandemic cause men to seek out close, intimate contact with complete stangers.

Dubbing the additional business as “pandemic visits,” the article believes that single salarymen with excessive time on their hands over the holiday, which ends this week, and nothing to fulfill their lower body will be flocking to Japan’s entertainment areas in lieu of taking overseas trips, now a risky bet given the increasing concern over swine flu.

The 44-year-old editor-in-chief of a famous adult magazine says that the fuzoku industry is traditionally in the off-season in February, May and November, with the two months that bookend December being reserved for recovering and preparing for the New Year’s holidays. “May is when both time and money are spent on traveling with family and friends,” he says. “However, with this new flu, things could have a different outlook this year.”

The editor conveys the fact that he knows of a deri heru (out-call) shop in which many of the girls have been asked to be prepared on an as-needed basis in order to accommodate the possible surge.

“Usually during Golden Week, shops compete by offering discounts, but the scene is not the same this year,” the editor says. “Instead of being in a tourist spot and at risk of being infected, many guys will want to be in intimate contact with a healthy female in private.”

Tsuyoshi Kusanagi, a member of the hugely successful band Smap, was arrested on suspicion of public indecency after police officers found him seated naked on the grass near the Roppongi entertainment district at 3am.

Residents had called police after spotting a man wandering around the park and yelling incoherently.

The 34-year-old singer, whose clean-cut image has made him one of the most popular members of the five-piece band, reportedly said: “What’s wrong with being naked?” His clothes were found in a bundle beside him.

Reports said Kusanagi, who has also built a successful film and TV career, had been drinking with friends in Roppongi before the incident.

His arrest has dominated the TV news in Japan, while fans lined the streets outside the police station for a glimpse of the singer.

While his antics were tame by the standards of the rock world, Smap’s squeaky-clean image means their backers are likely to take a dim view of Kusanagi’s drunken cavorting, even if their millions of fans will probably forgive him.

Toyota immediately suspended the rental car commercials in which he appears and industry experts speculated the band was likely to lose more lucrative contracts.

Smap – an acronym for sports, music, assemble, people – have dominated the pop scene for almost 20 years, as the most visible act belonging to the secretive talent agency, Johnny and Associates.

“We apologise deeply for the trouble and worry caused to everyone, especially his fans,” the agency said in a statement, adding that it would make a further announcement on Kusanagi’s future career.

Smap’s members are fixtures on Japanese TV programmes, appearing in everything from variety to drama programmes and even hosting their own celebrity cookery show. They have built a huge following in South Korea, thanks mainly to Kusanagi’s fluency in the language.

TV footage showed a haggard-looking Kusanagi being transferred to a police station this afternoon. “He has such a clean image,” one woman told the TBS television broadcaster. “He doesn’t seem like that kind of person.”

Kusanagi reportedly apologised for his actions. He admitted stripping off in the park but said he had no recollection of how he got there.

The episode is an embarrassment for the government, which had hired Kusanagi to promote Japan’s switch from analogue to digital TV broadcasting over the next two years.

The Kyodo news agency quoted Kunio Hatoyama, the internal affairs and communications minister, as describing the singer as a “bastard”.

“His actions are shameful for a person who is asking the public to shoulder a financial burden,” he said.

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM – Barry Gisbourne, who was awarded the MBE by the Queen for his military actions, admitted a total of 14 sex charges on the day he was due to stand trial.

Judge Gordon Risius told the grey-haired 63-year-old he was not sending him to prison but went on to the criticise hospital authorities who turned a blind eye to his behaviour.

Gisbourne was working as a senior operating department practitioner at the hospital when he carried out the perverted attacks on healthcare assistants and nurses between 2000 and 2007.

The court heard how the highly-decorated former major targeted women colleagues at Heatherwood Hospital in Ascot, Berkshire.

Mark Williams, prosecuting, said: “This defendant engaged in a course of conduct abusing his senior position.

“His actions resulted in at least two of his victims leaving their positions at the hospital.”

He said Williams, who is married, would strike with his first victim, a healthcare assistant, when he was alone with her.

“He would run his arm down her back and onto her bottom,” he said. “When asked what he was doing, he would just laugh it off.”

Mr Williams went on to describe how, on one occasion on the hospital ward, Gisbourne slid his hand into the victim’s uniform and left lingerie in her pocket.

“He put his hand into the top pocket of her top and placed something into it,” he said. “It turned out to be a pair of knickers which caused her some alarm and distress.”

A Judge at Reading Crown Court heard how Gisbourne, of Fleet, Hampshire, had denied the 10 charges of sexual assault and four charges of indecent assault until the day of his trial, when he decided to plead guilty.

The court also heard how Gisbourne asked his second victim “how’s your sex life” before straddling her as she sat in her office chair.

Mr Williams then described how bespectacled Gisbourne would push himself into the back of each of the nine women when they checked their duties on the ward noticeboard.

“She was looking at the whiteboard when he came up behind and rubbed his private area against her,” he said in relation to one of the victims.

In mitigation Richard Button, defending, attempted to describe Gisbourne as “an honourable man.”

“He wishes to apologise for his behaviour and it is behaviour that he takes responsibility for,” said Mr Button.

“He served 35 years in the Army in the medical corps and served in several theatres of action.

“He received an MBE military division for rescuing two Japanese mountaineers in the Japanese Alps.”

Mr Button added: “He found it hard – life outside the Army – but carved out a living for himself.”

In passing sentence, Judge Gordon Risius voiced his despair at the failings of the hospital which kept the defendant in employment.

“Your behaviour was repeatedly brought to the attention of the hospital and it is astonishing that it was not investigated by the management,” he said.

“I take into consideration your previous unblemished character, your many years of military service, your loss of reputation and your loss of employment.

“I have decided that the appropriate sentence is 10 concurrent community orders.”

Judge Risius handed Gisbourne a three-year supervision requirement and ordered him to attend a Sex Offenders’ group work programme.

Several of Gisbourne’s victims were sat in the public gallery and were visibly disgusted that the sleazy offender would be allowed his freedom.

Justifying the lack of jail sentence, Judge Risius said: “People are entitled to their views. A custodial sentence was not justified in this case.

“I hope those that have suffered can move on with their lives.”
