LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA – Christina Aguilera will play a Burlesque stripper in a new musical. The ‘Candyman’ singer has signed on to make her film debut in ‘Burlesque’, a film about a shy American girl whose life changes when she takes a job at a Los Angeles strip club.
Clint Culpepper – from Screen Gems, the studio making the film – said: “I couldn’t be more excited, as this was a project written with her in mind.”
This is the first time Christina, 28, has appeared in a film, though she voiced a character in the 2004 animation ‘Shark Tale’.
‘Burlesque’ – which is reportedly based on Bob Fosse’s iconic musical ‘Cabaret’ – was written by Pussycat Dolls producer Steven Antin, who will also direct the project. Read the rest of this entry »

The Bonny Lass
A host of male strippers, burlesque dancers and scantily-clad acrobats will battle it out to impress the judges.
But with such a vast amount of flesh on display, the latest series may well leave some viewers wondering if the ITV show has become a bit cheap and tawdry.
A Scottish burlesque stripper named Daiquiri Dusk, a camp dancing trio called Dream Bears and a pole-dancing group called Aspira are among the many acts performing on the ‘family-friendly’ show.
Many of the acts, which include auditions from Birmingham and Cardiff, feature performers in as little as their underwear, prompting questions whether they would be suitable entertainment for the Queen at the Royal Variety Show.

NEW YORK, NEW YORK – In a cabaret-style mix of music, drag, spoken word and multimedia performance art, The Sex Worker’ Art Show hopes to reinforce the notion of sex workers as artists. Performances will provide a variety of perspectives on sex work. Ideas range from prostitutes’ rights to “views from the darker sides of the industry.”
The Sex Worker’s Art Show aims to extend past the taboo to comment on class, race, gender, labor and sexuality.
Performances by sex workers including Jo Boobs, headmistress of the New York Academy of Burlesque, feminist author Chris Kraus, porn star and writer Lorelei Lee, Simone de la Getto, founder and director of the nation’s first all-black burlesque troupe, and Annie Oakley, tour founder, director and author of Working Sex. “The Crazy Horse is so historical and sophisticated, it really gets me thinking about how times have changed – there [are] hundreds and hundreds of names on the wall of people who have been there. John F. Kennedy was there while he was in Office, I mean this is an all-nude cabaret,” Teese told Tarts at a recent party. “What U.S. President now could walk into that? It is a strange time. I just met the First Lady and the President of France and they wished they could come to my show but can’t while they have this job. PARIS, FRANCE – Apparently fetish model and burlesque performer Dita Von Teese (a.k.a. Heather Sweet) hasn’t danced her final show just yet at Parisian nightclub Crazy Horse.
Having said her farewells on Sunday to “the world’s most alluring and talented showgirls,” the 36-year-old outlandish dancer told press, “To miss the Crazy Horse Paris is to miss the most sophisticated and celebrated cabaret in the world.”

HUDDERSFIELD, UNITED KINGDOM – A RAUNCHY new burlesque night is set to liven up Huddersfield’s club scene.
Once a form of risqué classical theatre, burlesque was popularised as a form of adult entertainment in 19th century America.
But in the last 10 years, burlesque clubs have sprung up across the UK, offering a more tasteful type of cabaret and striptease.
Now Huddersfield’s long neglected burlesque fans are to be whipped into a frenzy with the launch of Ruby Scandaleux, a sizzling night of tease at Dogma Bar & Kitchen on Queensgate.

NEW YORK, NEW YORK – Two Oregon-based nightclub performers who call themselves the Porcelain Twinz have filed a lawsuit saying they were forced to perform sex acts with their New York employer and with each other to keep their jobs.
Heather and Amber Langley are identical twins from Portland, Ore., who say they pioneered “fetish-burlesque.” In court papers filed late Tuesday in Manhattan, they say they performed at a downtown dinner theater-cabaret called The Box for about a year, starting in July 2007.
The women say The Box’ owner, Simon Hammerstein, required them to perform sex acts on each other in a production called “Twincest.” They say he also made them have three-way sex with him. Read the rest of this entry »
