MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA – A class action lawsuit is being filed against the King of Diamonds, a strip club near Minneapolis. the suit claims that the club is violating federal and state laws by classifying the dancers as independent contractors rather than employees.
The classification benefits the club as it requires the dancers to pay a fee of $20 to $100 a night to work. The dancers do not get a wage and work for tips only. The plaintiffs attorney, E. Michelle Drake, argues that employers cannot require employees to pay to work and that the employees cannot work for tips only.
She also argues that people who wait tables also get a wage and, therefore, those who give table dances should also get a wage.
