“Coffee, tea, or nudity?”

In a TV ad , flight attendants, pilots and crew members are shown with nothing more than body paint that mimics their uniforms. Passengers are shown looking surprised, but delighted. The ad then declares that with Air New Zealand’s fares, what people see is what they get. (Video after the jump.)

The same concept is used in an in-flight safety video where attendants strategically place items like seat belts and life jackets to cover their private parts.

CNN reports that each person playing the roles of the flight crew are actually playing themselves. Even Air New Zealand CEO Rob Fyfe makes a cameo as a baggage handler in the TV ad.

Air New Zealand marketing manager Steve Bayliss told the Seattle Times that the company wanted to do something to get people’s attention.

“We wanted to find a way to deliver these important pre-flight messages to our domestic travelers in a way that was genuine, engaging and fun,” Bayliss said.

The company says the safety videos are currently only being shown on the airline’s 737 services within New Zealand.

Do asexuals NEED dating sites?

One site that started letting people pick asexual as an orientation seems a little odd at first. The site caters to people with many fetishes that couples turn to spice up their love life in the bedroom. The Philadelphia Ace Examiner must warn the reader that this post may not be entirely safe to work. (He also wonders how many of his fellow Examiners find the title of Philadelphia Ace Examiner pretentious.)

Fetlife bills itself as a ‘Facebook’ for the Fetish community. Users can create profiles, explain what activities they would like to pursue, discuss their illicit activities, and hopefully find other like-minded people. Because it caters exclusively to fetishists, one may wonder exactly why they let users pick asexual or asexuality as one of the orientations that members can choose.

The term asexual may have a different meaning to fetishist than it does to people who simply do not experience sexual attraction, but if the term does meant he same thing, the owners of Fetlife have gone a step beyond the dating sites and recognized asexuality as an orientation. Romantic asexual relationships will be explored in later columns. Was it included because some people have a fetish in people who are not interested in sex or because some asexuals are into some aspects of the BDSM lifte style?

One can only hope the larger sites whose focus is actually on hooking up romantic partners will allow romantic asexuals to meet with others who share their orientation. For now, asexuals seeking romance must stick to the few sites that understand that some people do not want sex or find a partner who shares the same lack of interest in physical intimacy that the seeker does.

On Saturday, LiLo posted a sexy picture to her Twitter account showing the “Mean Girls” star in her undies while wearing a Jacksonesque hat pulled over her eyes.

“MJ was playing when this was taken, I’m not that much of narcissist,” Lohan tweeted.

Over the weekend, Lindsay made another nod to Jackson while out with off-again on-again girlfriend Samantha Ronson in Las Vegas as part of a pre-birthday bash for Linds, who’s big day is coming up July 2.
For that occasion, Lohan wore a pared-down version of Michael Jackson’s Sgt. Pepper’s jacket while Ronson wore an MJ T-shirt.

Frogs, salamanders and other amphibians began to sprout extra legs. In heavily polluted Lake Apopka, one of the largest lakes in Florida, male alligators developed stunted genitals.

In the Potomac watershed near Washington, male smallmouth bass have rapidly transformed into “intersex fish” that display female characteristics. This was discovered only in 2003, but the latest survey found that more than 80 percent of the male smallmouth bass in the Potomac are producing eggs.

Now scientists are connecting the dots with evidence of increasing abnormalities among humans, particularly large increases in numbers of genital deformities among newborn boys. For example, up to 7 percent of boys are now born with undescended testicles, although this often self-corrects over time. And up to 1 percent of boys in the United States are now born with hypospadias, in which the urethra exits the penis improperly, such as at the base rather than the tip.

Apprehension is growing among many scientists that the cause of all this may be a class of chemicals called endocrine disruptors. They are very widely used in agriculture, industry and consumer products. Some also enter the water supply when estrogens in human urine — compounded when a woman is on the pill — pass through sewage systems and then through water treatment plants.

These endocrine disruptors have complex effects on the human body, particularly during fetal development of males.

“A lot of these compounds act as weak estrogen, so that’s why developing males — whether smallmouth bass or humans — tend to be more sensitive,” said Robert Lawrence, a professor of environmental health sciences at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. “It’s scary, very scary.”

The scientific case is still far from proven, as chemical companies emphasize, and the uncertainties for humans are vast. But there is accumulating evidence that male sperm count is dropping and that genital abnormalities in newborn boys are increasing. Some studies show correlations between these abnormalities and mothers who have greater exposure to these chemicals during pregnancy, through everything from hair spray to the water they drink.

Endocrine disruptors also affect females. It is now well established that DES, a synthetic estrogen given to many pregnant women from the 1930s to the 1970s to prevent miscarriages, caused abnormalities in the children. They seemed fine at birth, but girls born to those women have been more likely to develop misshaped sexual organs and cancer.

There is also some evidence from both humans and monkeys that endometriosis, a gynecological disorder, is linked to exposure to endocrine disruptors. Researchers also suspect that the disruptors can cause early puberty in girls.

A rush of new research has also tied endocrine disruptors to obesity, insulin resistance and diabetes, in both animals and humans. For example, mice exposed in utero even to low doses of endocrine disruptors appear normal at first but develop excess abdominal body fat as adults.

Among some scientists, there is real apprehension at the new findings — nothing is more terrifying than reading The Journal of Pediatric Urology — but there hasn’t been much public notice or government action.

This month, the Endocrine Society, an organization of scientists specializing in this field, issued a landmark 50-page statement. It should be a wake-up call.

“We present the evidence that endocrine disruptors have effects on male and female reproduction, breast development and cancer, prostate cancer, neuroendocrinology, thyroid, metabolism and obesity, and cardiovascular endocrinology,” the society declared.

“The rise in the incidence in obesity,” it added, “matches the rise in the use and distribution of industrial chemicals that may be playing a role in generation of obesity.”

The Environmental Protection Agency is moving toward screening endocrine disrupting chemicals, but at a glacial pace. For now, these chemicals continue to be widely used in agricultural pesticides and industrial compounds. Everybody is exposed.

“We should be concerned,” said Dr. Ted Schettler of the Science and Environmental Health Network. “This can influence brain development, sperm counts or susceptibility to cancer, even where the animal at birth seems perfectly normal.”

The most notorious example of water pollution occurred in 1969, when the Cuyahoga River in Ohio caught fire and helped shock America into adopting the Clean Water Act. Since then, complacency has taken hold.

Those deformed frogs and intersex fish — not to mention the growing number of deformities in newborn boys — should jolt us once again.

Our guess? They were all tied up.

The June 21 party, between 10th and 11th avenues on West 28 Street, was attended by several thousand people who sources told the New York Post each paid $10 to enter.

Videos of the event posted to YouTube depict nearly-nude men fondling each other’s genitals, a man in leather chaps having his bare butt whipped while a crowd looks on and a man with his hands bound over him and his genitals restrained.

The New York Police Department issued a parade permit for the event.

“We were aware of the event and did not get any complaints during the event,” a police spokesman said.

Apple updated its OS 3.0 iPhone software earlier in June to include parental controls that restrict some applications to people over a certain age. (Canadian Press)

Apple has confirmed it pulled the Hottest Girls app from its iTunes store shortly after the app was updated with images of nude and topless women.

“Apple will not distribute applications that contain inappropriate content,” said a public statement from Apple first issued Friday.

“The developer of this application added inappropriate content directly from their server after the application had been approved and distributed, and after the developer had subsequently been asked to remove some offensive content. This was a direct violation of the terms of the iPhone Developer Program. The application is no longer available on the App Store.”

Apple updated its OS 3.0 iPhone software earlier in June to include parental controls that restrict some applications to people over a certain age. That led to widespread speculation online at sites such as MacRumors.com that the door would soon be open to porn.

Last Wednesday, Hottest Girls began boasting its “completely naked pics,” billing itself as “the first and only app with nudity.” The first version of the iPhone and iPod Touch app was released in May, and included photos of scantily clad women, but none who were naked. The app, available as of last week for download to customers 17 and older for $1.99 on iTunes, claimed to have more than 2,000 images of “the finest looking girls” that would be automatically updated periodically.

On Thursday afternoon, a note posted on the website of Hottest Girls developer Allen Leung said that the app was “temporarily sold out” as the servers distributing the app were crashing due to high traffic. However, it promised the topless images would still be there when sales resumed.

Apple has banned a number of applications in recent months that could potentially tarnish its image, including one from the band Nine Inch Nails and another featuring the South Park cartoon. In April, the company also pulled the plug on the “Baby Shaker” application, which prompted numerous complaints. The app let users shut off the sound of a crying baby by shaking their iPhone vigorously.

The AFL Players” Association was said to have been funding her sessions with a psychologist after she revealed her decade-long sex spree with the footballers.

According to Sunday Herald Sun, the woman, identified only as “Amy”, worked at various AFL clubs and confessed having group sex with players, reports News.com.au.

The players” association was reported to have offered Amy six counselling sessions.

But AFL Players Association spokesman Jason Murnane said he could not “confirm or deny” that the association was being billed for the sessions.

Woops... wrong playground

Police said that Tony Cooper, a retired computer programmer, was not breaking any laws by wearing only tennis shoes while he strolled around this college town on the California border.

Cooper told The Daily Tidings newspaper that he has been a nudist for decades and has lived at nudist resorts in California and Arizona.

Before visiting Ashland, he was staying in the Bay Area in order to participate in San Francisco’s Bay to Breakers 12K race in which he ran naked, he said.

But his nude walks in Ashland upset many local residents, leading some to call for a ban on public nudity in the city.

Some parents and other community members were especially concerned after Cooper was spotted near Walker Elementary School on May 29 as children were walking home from school.

Cooper told the newspaper that he didn’t realize he was near a school and didn’t intend for the kids to see him.

“That was my mistake,” he said. “I messed up completely.”

But Cooper says people overreacted.

“I think they should all send their kids to a nudist resort or have naked day in Ashland where everyone is naked,” he said. “Then all of those hang-ups would disappear.”

Oregon does not have any laws restricting nudity, but the city of Ashland requires people to cover their genitals in the downtown area and in public parks.

Cooper told the Ashland newspaper he used to travel to project sites as a computer programmer and has continued wandering the country since he retired last year.

If he returns to Ashland, he says he will consider limiting his naked walks to after 10 p.m.

At least I wasn't in Argentina

Authorities arrested Mark Musselwhite and charged him with public indecency last weekend after state Department of Natural Resources officers found him sitting nude at his Rabun County campsite.

Officers had received a complaint about a naked man walking along a nearby road earlier in the day, but the 43-year-old Musselwhite said he was not the same man. Musselwhite told the DNR officer he had been swimming in a nearby creek.

The Republican was elected to the Gainesville City Council in 2000, where he served for six years, including a stint as mayor. He lost a bid for a state Senate seat in 2006.

Musselwhite could not be reached for comment by The Associated Press on Saturday.
