Sex Toy Shout Out: Hello (Again) Kitty

UNITED STATES – For many years this Hello Kitty vibe was the queen of novelty vibrators. It’s not the most functional of toys (using it is okay, cleaning it is another story) but it was one of those important crossover objects, bridging the divide that separates those who proudly use and collect sex toys from collectors of everything else (who only pretend there isn’t a sexual component to the objects of their desire).

The story goes that Hello Kitty manufacturer Sanrio discontinued the Kitty vibe when it became clear that sex stores were selling it and the North American media were writing about it. If the story is true it’s interesting to note that the product had been available for some time in Asian markets without causing a similar stir in the media.

Whether that’s a true story or not, the vibe disappeared for a few years, but has happily resurfaced, in three colors! It’s a basic one-speed pocket-rocket style battery vibrator. It’s definitely powerful enough to be practical, but in my opinion unless you want to put a condom over it, or devote some time and a special toothbrush to it, it’s probably better used as a conversation piece than a bedside or travel companion.
