Underwear company uses illustration of Merkel in bra and knickers for a ‘trade in your old undies’ campaign.

German ad with a mock-up image of Chancellor Angela Merkel
A giant illustration of 54-year-old Merkel in matching purple bra and knickers graced a billboard on Berlin’s main shopping strip, the “Ku’damm,” Thursday, reports Agence France-Presse.
It’s part of an underwear company’s advertising campaign urging consumers to trade in their old underwear for a discount on new ones. And it certainly is eye-catching! The slogan? “The country needs new undies.” Ouch! Is there a political statement in there? It’s a play on the advertising campaign encouraging people to trade in their old cars. Only we’re hoping they won’t be reusing the underwear like the cars, because that’s just not sanitary …
Merkel’s office isn’t exactly jumping for joy over the whole thing. “The chancellor’s office does not want to comment on the campaign,” a spokesman told AFP.
