Mischa Barton Poses Nude as she Defends her Body Image

Mischa Barton has stripped off to pose nude for a magazine cover and declare that she’s confident about her body image, despite recent criticism.

The American actress’ weight has fluctuated dramatically since she left hit show The OC and she was pictured with cellulite on the backs of her legs.

But Mischa doesn’t understand the interest in the subject.

“Surely there are more important issues than if someone has cellulite?” she told Cosmpolitan magazine.

“And I don’t understand the point of people looking for bad things. Why bother? I know it’s human nature to want to pick on other people, but I find it a little shallow.”

Despite her views the 23-year-old has recently shed a lot of pounds, going from a size 12 to a size 6-8 in six months, sparking rumours of health issues and accusations that she was now too thin.

“It’s human nature to be self-critical, but it’s possible to like the way you look,” she continued.

“I’m happy now – I wouldn’t change my body and I couldn’t anyway. The only way to be happy and be a more enjoyable person to be around is to embrace what you’ve got. Everyone has issues about their body, but I feel confident now.

“I’m healthy and happy.”

Mischa, who was recently dating Luke Pritchard from The Kooks, puts her new state of mind down to being single and discovering herself.

“I’m working on [getting confident] but I’ve grown so much in the past six months. I’ve grown immensely. It’s because I’ve been single.

“After I broke up with a boyfriend last year (prior to Luke), I felt empowered. I’ve forced myself to grow up. I really felt like it was time. And nothing makes you grow like finding out that somebody or something isn’t good for you.”

The full interview appears in the May edition of Cosmopolitan, on sale today.
