LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM – Martin Rodriguez was arrested after the BBC showed clips of him acting suspiciously and taking covert pictures of teenage girls.

Rodriguez, 39, was already the subject of a Sexual Offences Prevention Order having been convicted of sexual assault of a girl under 13 in 2005, and of taking and possessing indecent images of girls under the age of 18 in 2007.

Under the order he had been banned from working with children as well as prohibited from taking pictures of anyone under the age of 18.

When he was interviewed the loner, who had previously been caught taking pictures of young girls’ feet at his local park, told police that he took a small camera out with him most of the time.

Prosecutor Heather Shimmin told the court: “He said he had a small camera he took out and if he saw something he liked – a woman – he would take a picture. He said it didn’t matter what age they were if they looked good. He said the images were taken by him and he didn’t consider himself to be dangerous, and there was no danger in taking someone’s photograph.”

The court heard Rodriguez had eight previous convictions for nine offences including the sexual assault as well as one for grievous bodily harm and one for drink driving.

Rodriguez was jailed for eight months but told he would be released after half the period on licence. His 76 days already spent in custody will be deducted from the term so he will be released in a little over a month and a half.

He was also again made the subject of a Sexual Offences Prevention Order, to last five years.
