TWINSBURG, OHIO – A naked man, who was found at a Darrow Road gas station and told police he had explosives in his car, was arrested and charged with several offenses Aug. 4.

Police charged 29-year-old Mohammad Jamal Isaifan of Akron with theft, public indecency, resisting arrest, assault on a police officer and inducing panic for his role in the July 31 bomb scare.

Isaifan could not be reached for comment.

According to Lt. Jeff Nash, Isaifan, a native of Jordan and a legal resident of the U.S., told police that two packages inside his vehicle parked at the gas station were explosives, and the Summit County Bomb Squad was called in to destroy them.

Nash said Isaifan is being held at Akron General Hospital.

According to witnesses, Isaifan walked into the gas station store around 1 p.m., entered the bathroom with a bottle of mouthwash, rubbing alcohol, shaving cream and a razor he allegedly took from the store shelves, then came out of the bathroom naked and mumbling. The clerk called 911.

Responding police officers found Isaifan in the store and attempted to apprehend him, but he allegedly struggled with them. The scuffle spilled into the parking lot, where officers said they used an electronic stun device on Isaifan twice before they were able to subdue and arrest him.

Nash said that’s when Isaifan told them that his vehicle in the parking lot had “bombs” in it.

The county bomb squad was called in, searched the vehicle and discovered two backpacks, one in the backseat and the other in the trunk, which contained photos, newspapers and a laptop computer. The bomb squad took the backpacks to an off-site location and destroyed them for safety, according to police.

Isaifan was charged with theft, police said, for allegedly stealing the cleaning and toiletry items, and inducing panic. The gas station and a nearby restaurant were evacuated after police discovered the bomb threat.

Isaifan received minor scrapes during the incident, and Twinsburg EMS transported him to UH Bedford Medical Center for evaluation and he was later transferred to Akron General Hospital.

A city police officer injured his wrist during the scuffle, but was not hospitalized, said Nash.
