Apparently implied nudity for the “readers” of FHM is “artistic”.
‘Sexiest Woman’ in combat mode
SOUTH AFRICA– Model Tanya van Graan is fuming after pictures of her breasts popped up on a local tabloid magazine cover this week.
The pictures were taken last year when Van Graan, who came tops in a FHM 100 sexiest women in the land competition, scored a cameo role in Starship Troopers: Marauder.
In the movie, featuring Belgian action hero Jean-Claude van Damme, Van Graan is shot topless for a few minutes while filming in a scene about her character preparing for battle.
This week, stills of the scene were splashed on the cover of Heat magazine and appeared on gossip websites.
On the magazine cover, she is left near naked with the words “naked” covering her breasts.
“It was not fair the way the magazine handled those pictures because they are [taken] out of context. They are stills from a movie as opposed to posed photographs — and nowhere does it explain what was happening in that scene. But what am I to do?” she said.
Ironically, Van Graan recently declared herself to be someone who is “not desperate enough to take a part if I am not comfortable with the content.”
She says in an interview with student magazine SL that she is opposed to nudity and sex in films or magazines that feature “sexual content”.
She was quoted in SL magazine as saying: “I will not take a film role involving nudity for nudity’s sake.”
Speaking to The Times yesterday, the 24-year-old said: “The interviewer was speaking about being a stripper or doing a sex scene in a porn film, which is what I would never do. I have never done a sexual scene and don’t intend doing one.”
She said, however, that she has often modelled near-naked, and in lingerie and swimwear, but felt the shots [as used by Heat] were a bad representation of her.
“I have always done shoots that are seen as controversial since I [became] a model. People will always judge you, and that is the price I have to pay and the entertainment people are the best candidates for this,” she says.
Magazine editor Melinda Shaw said: “We love Tanya. If she could use her beautiful body to get a role in a Hollywood movie, good for her. Charlize Theron did it, why can’t she?
