GLEN RIDGE, NEW JERSEY – A Glen Ridge homeowner who was awakened about 5:40 a.m. bumped into an intruder who apparently had bedded down in a second-floor bedroom after making calls on her cell phone, police said yesterday.
The woman screamed after spotting the man Tuesday and ran to a nearby home to call 911. When officers arrived at the Douglas Road residence, they found Joseph R. Miller, 30, of Montclair in the yard by the back door, police said. They said Miller was wearing a blanket.
“He was naked underneath,” Lt. Paul Bruno said.
The homeowner, police said, had apparently left a door ajar to give a sick dog access to the yard. A noise awakened her about 3:30 a.m., but she went back to sleep. Some two hours later, the woman spotted the intruder on the second floor.
“He was walking by,” Bruno said. “I guess he used the bath room”
Miller was charged with burglary, theft and possession of a weapon, a razor knife, police said. Bail was set at $15,000.
