NORTHBRIDGE, MASSACHUSETTS – How do full frontal male nudity and acts of sodomy get on local cable TV? That’s the question being asked in Northbridge, Mass., where a cable access show featured several offensive acts that were broadcast uncensored.
“There were two shacking scenes,” Shelley Buma, of the Cable Advisory Committee said. “One was an act of sodomy with a garden rake.”
The other scene was a fully naked man dancing to the theme from Rocky and snapping his penis in a mouse trap.
“Channel 11 is a soapbox for citizens to show a whole host of different things,” Buma said.
Unlink some neighboring towns, Northbridge doesn’t regulate the shows on cable access TV.
“It goes against community standards and it’s hardcore pornography,” Buma said.
Word of the controversy spread fast in Northbridge, leading to shock and disgust over the programming.
Heather Mazo, the show’s producer said she understands how the broadcast could cause controversy.
“The way people are talking about it now in town is just going to make more kids want to watch it, Mazo said.
As a member of the cable advisory board, Buma has been working to create guidelines to prevent situations like this. Mazo called Buma’s action “a bit obsessed.”
“It’s meant to be a joke,” Mazo said.
