Pastor Convicted for Asking the Faithful to Pray Naked

Priest and NunSALIMA, MARYLAND – The Salima First Grade Magistrate’s Court on Thursday sentenced Pastor Listen Kamfeu of the Faith Restoration Church to six months imprisonment for insulting the modesty of a woman contrary to Section 137 (3) of the Penal Code.

Kamfeu was accused of forcing women to chant while naked as a way of offering sacrifice to God.

Kamfeu and his deacon Luka Wilson were found with a case to answer on allegations that between 2003 and 2006 they used to conduct ceremonies where women were supposed to offer sacrifices to God while naked in their presence.

Kamfeu’s lawyer Wapona Kita, however, in mitigation pleaded with the court to give Kamfeu suspended sentence or fine, arguing that the crime was only a misdemeanour.

“The pastor has also confirmed with me that he will revisit some of his church’s doctrines so that they should be in line with the law of the land,” said Kita.

He also told the court that Kamfeu was a sickly man who usually faints and that sending him to jail would worsen his health.
Magistrate Honde refused to hand out a suspended sentence.

“But seeing the remorsefulness, I sentence you Kamfeu to six months imprisonment but with one year suspension within which human rights activists [have] to closely observe [your] activities,” said Honde, warning that should the pastor engage in the practice again, he will be sent to jail.

Kamfeu has, however, indicated that he will appeal against the sentence.

The court acquitted Wilson, saying he was only a spectator.
